It is with great pleasure that the Observatory of Contemporary Argentina announces the presentation of the Chamber Orchestra Queen Sofía of Spain in the United States. The last concert of the 2006 tour will be at the Napa Valley Opera House followed by a gala dinner at Copia in benefit of the Dukes of Soria Foundation (www.fds.es).
The Orquesta de Cámara Reina Sofía (www.orquestadecamarareinasofia.com) is directed by my old friend Maestro Nicolás Chumachenco, who met my aunt, the pianist Lily Saslavsky, when Nicolás and I were both 15 years old in the Province of Tucumán. Nicolás played the Bach suites in the ceremony of my wedding on December 18 th , 1965 in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island.
We will shortly announce the confirmation dates of these five concerts of the Orchestra which we hope will be held in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San José, Seattle and finally Napa. We expect that the Orchestra will play at the Disney Hall, designed by Frank Gehry, part of the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County (www.musiccenter.org).
The Duke and Duchess of Soria will attend the gala concert at the Napa Valley Opera House and the dinner at Copia. It is a great honor to have as our guests the Duke, Dr. Carlos Zurita, and the Duchess, H.R.H. Princess Margarita de Borbón, sister to H.M. King Juan Carlos I. They both resided in Buenos Aires for extended periods in the past, and they remain friends of Argentina.
